The fourth annual See Me, Hear Me exhibition gives people who live with mental health problems the opportunity to show their art, but co-organiser Weis Schuiringa said it was also an opportunity to learn something about living with mental health. The exhibition is organised by The Benevolent Society and The Schizophrenia Fellowship.
"This exhibition falls in Mental Health Month and during the Southern Highlands Arts Festival," Weis said.
"All kinds of art will be on display and the works are very diverse, like every individual artist is diverse.
"Almost everyone is self taught, so they don't stick to any specific school of art or traditional art making."
See Me, Hear Me has proved to be a successful launching ground for up-and-coming local artists, including Sean Cuffe whose first exhibition was the 2013 event.
"I exhibited last year and since 2013 I've sold two pieces of art and been in two exhibitions. This year I'm in two exhibitions," Sean said.
Sean will have two works in this year's exhibit, which he said were inspired by the local area and himself. "I'm inspired by what's happening at the time and the two pieces are very, very different," he said.
"Golden Garden is two garden gates slightly open into a golden garden, which is a place of peace and The Pond is a bit chaotic.
"If you look long enough at it you'll see lots of different things in it."
See Me, Hear Me opens at Coffee Culture on Monday, October 27 at 6pm.
