Wollondilly MP Jai Rowell said the program would help provide funding for grassroots sports club in local and regional NSW.
Grants of up to $25,000 to improve sporting facilities are available on a dollar for dollar basis.
"I can't emphasise enough how important sport is to the health and well-being of individuals and communities alike," Rowell said.
"Encouraging increased participation in sport not only enhances our general health, but also benefits society at large by creating a healthier and more productive workforce.
"Participating in sport develops a wide range of transferable skills and attitudes, including teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving.
"Sport also contributes to building character and personal qualities such as courage, respect for others, persistence and self-discipline."
The program aims to increase participation opportunities in sport by:
- improving safety at sporting facilities
- improving amenities at sporting facilities
- developing environmentally sustainable sporting facilities
- addressing barriers to participation in sport.
Projects eligible for funding at sporting clubs include:
- enhance existing facilities e.g. watering systems, safety netting, lighting and upgrade of surfaces
- provide ancillary facilities e.g. sun protection shelters, change rooms, shower and toilet blocks
- construct new fixed and portable facilities and infrastructure.
Applications close on October 31. For more information, visit www.dsr.nsw.gov.au/grants
