As part of its capital works program, Wingecarribee Shire Council will start footpath, kerb and guttering works in the vicinity of Mittagong Playhouse, located on the corner of the Old Hume Highway and Bowral Road, Mittagong.
The works will include the removal of the existing asphalt footpath, upgrading kerbing, guttering and drainage and re-instating brick pavers on both footpaths adjacent to the playhouse.
Included in the upgrade will be the restoration of the existing heritage sandstone, which will be re-cut and re-laid as per its original design on a newly constructed reinforced concrete gutter.
The existing footpath will also be replaced with new concrete pavers.
The first stage of the construction is scheduled to start today.
Weather permitting, the first stage is expected to take about six weeks to complete. Stage two will involve the reconstruction of the footpath and will carry into the new year.
To allow the works to proceed safely, some car park spaces will be closed on both the northern side of Bowral Road and within the Main Street car park located adjacent to Mittagong Playhouse.
Pedestrian access will be limited but access to the playhouse will not be affected.
Motorists and pedestrians travelling along Bowral Road and within the main street car par are reminded to exercise care when travelling through the work zone and be aware of loose stones and heavy machinery within the area.
