A SITE for the planned Robertson Aquatic Centre has now been secured.
Robertson and District Swimming Pool Association (RADSPA) president John Thomas told committee members the good news at a recent meeting.
The secured site held by ARTC at the lower end of Caalong St, Robertson, has the support of Wingecarribee Shire Council to change the purpose of the existing lease to sport and recreation use.
The recommended amendment is now with the NSW Department of Planning and Environment.
The aquatic centre will house a four lane, 25-metre covered and heated swimming pool and a planned gymnasium. Disabled and wheelchair access will be incorporated and facilities for swimming will be available for the young and elderly.
The committee was formed in 1982 and since then has raised sufficient funds to start the centre while waiting for a suitable site.
The long-serving committee is well advanced with plans to build the aquatic centre and is looking to secure the services of a number of local trades people who have been waiting to assist with the centre's development.
"Indications are the amendment to the lease will be approved by December and we are pushing to commence the development of the centre by February," Thomas said.
"It is our intention to have the centre functional by August 2015."
