The Animals in the Wild Photo Competition was run in Narooma as a response from Greens MP David Shoebridge to the annual HuntFest event and was brought to the Southern Highlands in conjunction with the Wingecarribee Shire branch of Wires.
"My office ran the competition and it was initially a response to HuntFest where the Shooters and Fishers lobby is running an exhibition in Narooma to show hunted and killed animals and we thought the best response was to show animals in the wild that you shoot with a camera," Mr Shoebridge said.
"We were overwhelmed with entries of gorgeous and evocative images.
"I think the images are just spectacular and the backstories were really compelling."
The competition was judged by Australian photographer Rex Dupain and the entries and winners are now a touring exhibit.
"This was a way of showing why we campaign on these kinds of issues," Mr Shoebridge said.
"These are our precious native animals that we want to save and we wanted to make sure the images were seen more broadly.
"The Southern Highlands is such a strong part of the No Hunting campaign and such a supportive, animal loving community that it was a high priority to bring the exhibit here."
A raffle was held at the door which raised $270 for Wires.
The Animals in the Wild Photo Competition Exhibition will hang in the Bell Gallery in Berrima until Sunday, October 19.
