Police said an 18-year-old man went outside his Stawell Street South home at 11pm on Monday and was confronted by a man brandishing a black handgun.
He was threatened with the weapon before a second offender appeared from behind the victim’s car, which was parked in the carport.
Both assailants’ faces were covered, one with a balaclava and the other with an undefined face covering.
The 18-year-old man was chased into the house before he escaped through the backyard and jumped the fence into a neighbouring property.
The two offenders remained in the house and held the victim’s partner, a 17-year old female, at gunpoint and demanded cash.
The female told them she had no money and the two men fled the home empty-handed.
They are believed to have driven off in a white or cream hatchback, south along Stawell Street South.
Witnesses should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Ballarat police on 5336 6000.
