THE hunt for the best banger is over after five locals put their sausages to the test.
The final of the Battle of the Bangers was a heated affair at the Surveyor General Inn on Monday.
A number of tough sausage questions were put to the high-profile judges that ranged from taste to girth.
It was a hot topic for the community and a large crowd gathered at the pub to find out where they could enjoy the most satisfying banger.
While the competition usually takes place between six finalists from pubs around the district, Jam Sittipat from the Mittagong Hotel's campaign hit a snag when she was forced to withdraw at the last minute due to illness.
Members of the Kollege of Knowledge Kommittee for Kids stepped in for Ms Sittipat but their bangers weren't up to scratch.
After the finalists sweated over their brand new barbies donated by Barbeques Galore to grill their snags to perfection, the bangers found their way to the judges table for a verdict.
High profile members of the community, musical director Geoff Harvey, Goulburn MP Pru Goward, Wollondilly MP Jai Rowell, Deputy Mayor Graham McLaughlin who had quality control handled by his sister and interloper Susan Davies, Richard Kemp from Eschalot Restaurant and Gary Heading, joined forces to make a group decision on the best banger in town.
The winner of the People's Choice was Gary Lidgard from Sutton Forest Inn with a meat and mushroom snag from Oxley Mall Butchers.
The third most satisfying sausage was sizzled by Tom Porter who cooked on behalf of Moss Vale Hotel's Mark Knight.

Second place went to the People's Choice winner Mr Lidgard and Ms Goward said "it was the People's Choice and the judges agree".
But the ultimate banger honour went to Greg Schofield from Burrawang Hotel who grilled an Italian pork and fennel snag created by Gio Ruperto.
"I'd like to thank Barbeques Galore and the other sponsors along with the Burrawang Hotel and the KKKK," Mr Schofield said.
The KKKK was the event charity and president Tony Springett said the Battle of the Bangers, in conjunction with fundraising on the Saturday at the rugby 7s competition, raised more than $4600.
Part of that came from auctioning off two of the barbecues used by contestants after nine-year-old Dougal Etcell, a possible future banger legend, won the People's Choice raffle and the prize of Greg Schofield's best banger barbie.
The first barbecue went for $360 and the second for $350.
"It was a very profitable weekend between the raffles, the bangers and the barbecue auction," Mr Springett said.
