The idea for the memorial was first proposed a couple of years ago and an application for a government grant to turn it into reality was submitted last year.
President of the Colo Vale Community Association John Stead, who is a Vietnam veteran, is one of the driving forces behind the development.
"The plan is based on the VC memorial in Canberra: two low, semi-circle sandstone walls. Our aim is to dedicate the memorial on April 18 next year with a celebration that includes groups such as the Air League, RFS and the local school," Mr Stead said.
The town currently does not have a war memorial and Mr Stead said they were looking forward to having their own Anzac Day service in 2015 for the first time.
"The memorial will cost around $11,000 and we have just under $4000 now. Our target is to raise $6000 - $7000 in the local community and make up the rest with the grant," he said.
"Anyone who donates over $50 will be recognised with their name on a plaque in the hall."
One of the major fundraising events is on this Saturday, October 11 when the Small Hall Theatre Company will perform the light comedy Murder Upstairs Downstairs at Upton Priory.
The performance involves four actors playing a variety of bizarre characters in a rundown country estate, and also includes audience participation.
Apart from a small amount to cover costs, all proceeds from the event will go towards the war memorial project.
Tickets to the show in the Colo Vale Community Hall costs $15 and must be booked by October 9.
To book call 4889 5427 or 0438 619 846.
The committee also held a High Tea recently which was sold out, and will be repeated in March next year.
