The Wollondilly and Wingecarribee Wellness and Education Project has been selected to receive funding from Partners in Recovery South Western Sydney under the organisation's Systems and Services Improvement Fund.

South Western Sydney Medicare Local CEO, Rene Pennock said that a total of 35 applications for funding had been received, and of these 15 were chosen to share in the pool of $600 000 available funding.

"Partners in Recovery is committed to developing and implementing a program which provides people with the opportunity to improve their quality of life, through whichever avenue is most important to them," Mr Pennock said.

The Wollondilly and Wingecarribee Wellness and Education Project is run by the Macarthur Wingecarribee Carers Network (auspiced by Community Links Wollondilly).

The project is focused on de-stigmatising mental illness and encouraging community engagement.

It will include a wellness festival as well as mental health first aid training, leading to improved mental health literacy in the community.

"Partners in recovery is proud to collaborate with such a wide variety of local organisations that are also committed to helping improve the quality of life of people experiencing mental illness in our community," Mr Pennock said.
