The junior sportsperson was Tessa Good for hockey.
During August, Tessa was selected in the NSW under-13 girls hockey team.
This selection followed the State Field Championships in Orange in June where Tessa was named player of the tournament and named in the state selection squad to attend further training.
After her efforts at the championships and the training she was rewarded with selection in the state team.
Tessa will now travel to Brisbane in early October for the National under-13 Hockey Championships.
Tessa plays for Burrawang under-13s and under-15s in the Highlands competition as well as the Junior A hockey team for Chevalier College, where she was recently named the players' player for the team. She also plays indoor hockey at representative level and basketball for Chevalier.
The senior sportsperson was Nick Smith for Cyclocross.
Cyclocross is the triathlon of cycling and consists of many laps of a short (2.5-3.5 km) course featuring pavement, wooded trails, grass, steep hills and obstacles that requires riders to quickly dismount and carry the bike while navigating the obstruction and remount.
Nick has achieved excellent results in Cyclocross over the past few months. In August Nick competed in the Australian National Championships in Adelaide where he won a bronze medal.
The following day in the championships he finished fourth, with two more races in the current series.
Nick will be hoping these excellent results will earn him selection in the Australian Cyclocross Team to compete at the World Championships in the Czech Republic early next year.
The committee congratulated both Tessa and Nick and look forward to hearing of their further achievements throughout the year.
Nominations for the September senior sportsperson and junior sportsperson of the month can be sent to P.O. Box 555, Bowral 2576 or emailed to bdsawards1@gmail.com
