YERRINBOOL-BARGO Bushrangers were searching for back to back premierships in the men's reserve grade competition on Saturday.
But Mittagong put a stop to that with a 4-2 victory to claim the 2014 title.
Dave Winn scored a hat-trick for Mittagong and John Bova also bagged himself a goal.
For Yerrinbool, it was Scott Sundgren and Josh Higgs who scored the goals.
After a tough final against Moss Vale the week before, Mittagong team manager Tony White said his side came into the match well prepared.
"Mossy were quite young and quick in the middle on the semi-final and they really put us under some pressure. We were given a little bit more room to play today, partly because we did a bit better and also we were allowed to a little bit," he said.
"Up front we did things we haven't done all year which is finish our chances."
Mittagong was up 2-1 at the break but White said he was still happy with the team's first half.
"I felt like they had done well to get to 2-1 rather than we had done badly to let them in."
Towards the end of the match, fatigue set in and Yerrinbool scored another goal.
But Mittagong's many years playing together as a team got them through in the end.
"We know where we can rely on people and where we have to work hard. In finals you get a bit panicky and everyone works too hard and runs too much," White said.
"John Bova was excellent up front. Russell James as always who's been our player's player was brilliant in midfield and Glenn (Shelton) and Chris Harker in the middle and back have been awesome all year and were again (on Saturday)."
Bushrangers coach Garry Peters said he was disappointed with the loss after his team failed to play to its potential.
"I think it was a hell of a lot of nerves. Either that or they've said we can go ahead an do this and it'll be easy," he said.
"They didn't get the roll on they needed and they suffered. It just goes to show every team is beatable if you're not switched on."
But while the Bushrangers didn't win the big one, Peters said they did claim the minor premiership, golden gloves and best attack for 2014.
"I'm disappointed a little bit but proud of what they've achieved. When they started talking to each other and they started moving they started to gel but it was a little bit too late at that time.
"Congratulations to the Mittagong side because they were the better team on the day."
