Welcome to the first 'Cricket Corner', a weekly look at cricket in the Highlands and beyond.
The 2014-15 season is fast approaching and as yet the make-up of local grade cricket is still undecided.
It seems there will again be only one team from Goulburn in the first grade Southern Lands competition but East Bowral, last season's second grade premiers will definitely be fielding a team in first grade.
There is some uncertainty about whether there will be a sixth team with neither Bowral nor Mittagong able to stand alone.
Old-timers will be shaking their heads to know that Moss Vale will not be fielding a senior team in any grade.
One of our local umpires, John Burgoyne, is starting his season early by umpiring a two-day second grade game in Sydney before the local competition starts on October 11.
It's a great shame that local cricket will no longer have available the wonderful facilities of Chater Oval.
The ground's owners have been very generous and cooperative in making the picturesque, picket-fenced oval available for grade cricket and representative games but have decided not to continue.
This leaves just Bradman Oval, Lackey Park and the not always reliable Welby Oval as the only turf wickets available in the Highlands.
Each week Cricket Corner will pose a question on the Laws of the Game.
This week's question is: "What are the four ways a batsman may be dismissed from a no-ball?"
Answers next week!
