FOR the first time in five years, the Yerrinbool-Bargo Bushrangers were beaten in the men's first grade grand final.
The Bushrangers took on Goulburn Stags and were hoping to make it a sixth straight premiership.
Even though Goulburn played most of the match with just 10 men, it wasn't to be.
When the final whistle blew, the Stags claimed a 2-0 victory.
Yerrinbool coach Rob Miller said it was a disappointing result for his side.
"In that last third again we controlled play to a point and then our delivery was terrible," he said,
"We didn't really have any options, we lacked pace up front and that was probably all year. We needed to take our chances and not be chasing."
While Yerrinbool was behind on the scoreboard at the break, Miller said his team was still well and truly in the game.
"It was about ignoring the fact they had 10 players and just playing our game and trying to get the ball into the box."
As the match progressed, desperation crept into the Bushrangers game.
Needing a goal to stay in the game, Yerrinbool moved a player forward which left the Bushrangers exposed at the back.
Goulburn took advantage of this and scored a goal late in the match to make the score 2-0.
"I don't know that we were outplayed as such, but we didn't control the game like I wanted to, but the effort was there. We just weren't good enough," Miller said.
"It's hard to complain. We've had five in a row (and) it's still a good record. We're disappointed but we're still proud of the effort."
Miller said Josh Borg and Tom Lipman were two of the side's better players.
