Bowral's Corbett Gardens attracted droves of Highlanders and visitors alike for the local food and wine showcase.
In particular, there were a large number of families who attended the event.
Southern Highlands Food and Wine Association president Bill Hall told the Southern Highland News organisers hoped to have close to 2000 people attend on day one.
Mr Hall said he was ecstatic with the response.
"It's spectacular, people have been really good," he said.
"It's going really, really well - we're very impressed."
The Southern Highlands Food and Wine Festival continues on Sunday, September 14 from 10am-4pm.
Entry is $10 for adults or free admission for children under the age of 15.
