MOSS VALE under-13Bs celebrated winning the 2014 premiership on Saturday.
In an all Highlands grand final, the Dragons took on Bowral in the first match of the day at Camden and claimed a 12-4 victory.
Bowral scored first in the opening minutes of the match to take a 4-0 lead.
The Kookaburras maintained their lead until early in the second half when Moss Vale crossed the try line for the first of its three tries.
Dragons coach Frank Burke said the message to the boys was that they were not out the match and to remain positive.
"It was a great win. Their effort throughout the year accumulated in a victory for them (on Saturday)," he said.
"The boys had a great season, they trained very, very hard and that's their reward."
Harrison Hill, Hugh Parker and Cameron Pull all scored a try each in Moss Vale's victory.
Burke said the team's fitness and intensity in defence played a crucial role in Saturday's premiership victory. "We played both halves virtually in Bowral's half and we wore them down."
Burke said the turning point came after Jack Burke was penalised for a lifting tackle.
"After that, the boys really seemed to lift and Bowral seemed a little shell shocked by the defence."
While Moss Vale had a 22-10 win over Bowral in the semi-final a couple of weeks ago, Burke said it made no difference on grand final day.
Bowral defeated Appin last weekend to make it through to the decider and Burke said he knew the Kookaburras would come out with plenty of intensity.
"I told the boys we'd have to work hard to get the result and it showed in our game with our fitness and commitment in defence."
In a further reward for Moss Vale, Jack Burke was awarded player of the grand final and Hill was awarded Group 6 player of the year.
Burke said plenty of credit also went to co-coach Ray Stone.
"The whole team played well and when you win a grand final it's a team effort."
