ROBERTSON M claimed the women's premier league minor premiership on Saturday after a 3-1 victory over Moss Vale R.
A win against Yerrinbool last week would have sealed it for Robertson but instead they finished with a draw.
Heading into Saturday's two matches either Robertson, Moss Vale or Bundanoon were in with a chance to claim the minor premiership.
But after Bundanoon lost to Hill Top, Robertson took its chance. Conditions were difficult out at Hampden Park with the middle of the field greasy and difficult to gain traction on.
Robertson coach Damien Plain said he told his team to play out wide where there was better footing. It was not until midway through the first half Robertson took the lead.
Leading 2-0 at the break, Plain said he and the team were quietly confident they could finish with a win.
"I was quite happy with the way they were playing at half time and the girls were quite happy after a flat week the week before," he said.
"I told them if they keep going the way they were going they'd get the win."
Abby Doyle scored twice for Robertson and Chloe Vincent also found the back of the net, chipping it over the keeper.
Dom Palmer scored Moss Vale's only goal just after half time. Plain said both goal scorers played well on Saturday, as did Kirsty Nielsen.
Robertson will face Bundanoon this weekend in the major semi-final and Plain said the team's momentum would be crucial going into the finals.
"Momentum's a big thing. We've got a lot of form coming into finals and Bundanoon haven't.
"If we keep playing the way we are I think we'll be able to go all the way but anything can happen in finals."
Moss Vale coach Mark Berry said it was a good effort from his team in tough conditions.
With only nine regular first grade players available for the match, Moss Vale had to rely on a few second grade players to step up.
"It was a good match and we had a lot of chances in front of the goal but we just couldn't put them away," he said.
Berry said Palmer played well as did Martha Johnson who "ran her heart out".
Moss Vale will face Yerrinbool G in the minor semi-final this weekend.
