Cr Scandrett made the call ahead of the five Bush Fire Ready Workshops, which are run by council, Rural Fire Service (RFS) and Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW).
"The workshops are a great, worthwhile exercise that remind people what they need to prepare for," he said.
However, Cr Scandrett said the Rural Fire Service needed more support.
Cr Scandrett said council made contributions through initiatives such as the Environment Levy, but "we could do a lot more for the RFS".
"We are blessed by the fantastic volunteer service we have here," he said.
"We don't want to become complacent."
The first session will be held this Sunday at Mandemar Rural Fire Brigade Station.
Follow-up sessions will be held in Canyonleigh, Penrose, Welby and Colo Vale.
