MOSS VALE Magic's under-12 girls team picked up gold in the final of the Southern Junior League in Wollongong over the weekend.
The Magic had five teams make the finals including the under-12 boys (division two), under-12 girls (division two), under-16 boys (division one), under-16 girls (division two) and under-18 boys (division one).
Both the under-12 boys and under-16 boys were unlucky to lose their semi final matches on the first day and made it to the playoff for third on the Sunday.
Both teams finished third in their respective divisions.
The under-16 girls won on the Saturday against Tumut and went straight through to the grand final on Sunday and eventually played against Tumut once again.
However the team could not repeat its earlier success and went down 71-61 to finish runners-up in the division.
The under-18 boys had two exciting Saturday games, firstly against Queanbeyan where they won in overtime 93-87 and the second game against Illawarra where they again overcame a strong opposition to take the win 87-80 which was again in overtime.
They then played against Goulburn in the grand final on Sunday but went down 80-55.
There was no Country Premier League in the 12 girls division this year which meant the far stronger teams were in the mix within the Southern Junior League.
Under-12 coach Rose Parmenter said the girls had worked very hard this year, training two hours, twice a week, their hard work.
The final game was a low scoring affair and the Moss Vale girls worked hard in defence, stopping Albury from scoring any points in the third quarter.
The Magic played a very composed game using its offence and staying calm right to the final whistle.
Amy Aquillina's speed and defence resulted in her being awarded MVP of the game and Georgie Mitchell was the highest point scorer.
The girls move on to the State Shield in a few weeks to play against the winners of other Country and Metro Leagues.
