THE Highlands FC under-14 team travelled to Unanderra on Saturday to take on one of the top teams on the ladder.
Unanderra was dominant for the first 10 minutes and overpowered the Highlands defenders to score the opening goal which seemed to switch the Highlands boys on.
Unanderra was lucky to get to half time one goal up after it had to hold out many attacks by the Highlands boys.
The second half was as scrappy as the first with the ball constantly in the air and neither team able to take control.
With 10 minutes to go the Highlands rearranged things to create an attacking formation.
With five minutes to Highlands found the back of the net to level the score at 1-1.
It stayed this way to the end with a few nervous moments for both teams.
The under-15s played Kiama at David Woods playing fields.
In what was a good turnaround from last week, the boys had learnt from last week's game and completely outplayed the opposition with a good passing and possession game.
Right from the kick off the Highlands was determined to get a good result on Saturday and defeated Kiama 8-0.
This weekend, the Highlands has a top-of-table clash with Unanderra.
The under-16s did not get the start they wanted against last placed Albion Park on Saturday and were down 2-0 after 15 minutes.
Highlands have had several games this year where other teams have come from behind to win, so now it was the Highlands turn to show that it could do the same thing.
The team re-grouped, continued to play its own game and were soon on the scoreboard through a Will Duncan 25-yard strike.
The momentum continued to build and as the half finished HFC were back on level terms at 2-2 after Duncan cleaned up a loose ball, bagging his brace.
With it all to play for in the second half the HFC boys stayed focused, played positive football and it felt like only a matter of time before the deadlock would be broken.
During one forward attacking play, Lachlan Crook pounced on a good through ball and neatly beat the keeper to seal the final scoreline at 3-2.
