Mr McCoy, a garden designer and writer, was one of the guest speakers for the group's successful winter seminar on Saturday.
Bowral Uniting Church was full with more than 80 garden enthusiasts eager to learn tips from Mr McCoy and horticulturalist Mat Murray.
Mr McCoy said there were many Australian garden clubs that had "made a habit" of running all-day intensive seminars to complement monthly meetings.
"It's a new movement of garden clubs," he said.
"These (types of) seminars are a big advertising blast, providing a surge of energy."
A large number of attendees had pen and paper at the ready to take notes on Saturday.
Mr McCoy spoke about the balances required for a good garden, before he discussed bulb integration.
Mr Murray, a senior horticulturalist at the Blue Mountains Botanic Gardens, passed on some simple "rules" on how to grow bulbs.
He also shared an insight on the many species that he grows.
