THE Mittagong Lions reserve grade held on to top spot on the ladder with a 20-16 victory over the Camden Rams on Sunday.
It was 'the big four' - Ben Trevisiol, Mark Williams, Shane Rofe and Angus Elliot - that stepped up this week and helped the Lions to another home victory.
While Mittagong was again forced to do plenty of defending, playing-coach Corey Shepherd was happier with his side's performance this week.
"I was a lot happier with our ball control this week compared to the last couple of weeks," he said.
"In the first half we were a bit flat, but in the second half we came out and started running really good lines and it showed on the scoreboard."
Bo Lander, Billy Rofe (plus two conversions), Jack Marcocci and Ben Murchie all scored for Mittagong.
"I thought it was real tough from us," Shepherd said.
"There's still plenty of room for improvement but it's a step in the right direction."
Shepherd said Williams and Trevisiol were impressive up front, leading the way with their line speed and in defence.
Hayden Wallace was also solid at fullback while Daniel Fairbairn played a crucial role off the bench.
"He came on the field and lifted the tempo in the second half and got us going forward. So he was probably the turning point in that second half," Shepherd said.
This weekend Mittagong will face Moss Vale before taking on two of the top five teams, Thirlmere and Picton.
