Bowral pilot Owen Zupp has completed his re-enactment of Australia's first mail flight from Melbourne to Sydney.
Mr Zupp made a quick stop in the Highlands before he arrived at his final destination, Bankstown Airport, on Monday afternoon.
He took a break to chat with local residents, who also had a close look at his Jabiru 230D aircraft.
The crowd included Mr Zupp's wife Kirrily and children Hayden, Hannah, Beth and Ruby.
Mr Zupp said he was "overwhelmed" by the support from the Highlands community.
"It was absolutely wonderful that I was able to fly into Mittagong," he said.
"It was amazing to come over the top and see so many people there... it was fantastic."
In 1914, French aviator Maurice Guillax undertook the carriage of Australia's first mail and air freight from July 16-18.
Mr Guillax's plane carried Lipton Tea and O.T. juice.
Fittingly, Mr Zupp's landing coincided with Bastille Day in France.
Mr Zupp said attendees at Bankstown Airport included representatives of the French Government.
However, he said more people attended his landing at Mittagong.
Mr and Mrs Zupp and representatives of the centenary flight team were invited to attend the official Bastille Day function at Sydney's Powerhouse Museum.
Mr Zupp delivered official letters to French Government representatives, while his plane also carried cordial and tea.
Australia's first mail flight plane is hanging at the museum.
"The function was held under the eye of the original flight," Mr Zupp said.
Mr Zupp's flight began at Essendon Airport and there were stops at regional centres along the way.
He said the only setbacks during the journey were fog at Albury and his plane being covered in five millimetres of ice at Harden.
Mr Zupp said he was privileged to carry out the re-enactment flight.
"It went very well," he said.
