FATHER and son duo Daniel and Brody MacDonald, from Bogan Gate, are off to America next month to compete in the NRA National Championships.
Held at Raton, New Mexico, the former Mittagong residents (pictured right) will compete in Cowboy Lever Action Silhouette as members of the SSAA Australian Shooting Team.
Brody is the current Australian junior champion for the event, after he won the title in Perth in April.
He shot a personal best rifle score which included a perfect score on the first two banks of targets.
Daniel finished with the number six ranking in CLAS and the number three ranking in BPCR at the recent Australian Titles.
The competition will be shot over three events, Small Bore, Pistol Calibre and Rifle.
All shooting is off-hand using open sights at metal targets at set distances of 40, 50, 75 and 100 metres for Small Bore and Pistol Calibre on half size targets.
Rifle class is shot on full size targets at 50, 100, 150 and 200 metres.
Matches consist of 40 shots and 10 targets at each distance.
Shooters get two minutes for each five shots. Daniel will also be competing in Black Powder Cartridge Rifle Silhouette which is shot using single-shot Black Powder Cartridge Rifles of the 1870s to 1890s era at full size targets set at 200, 300, 385 and 500 metres.
This will be Brody's first experience in international competition while his father has previously competed in two World Championships, Oceania and Pacific Regional Titles.
