But it could have been a very different story today had so many wonderful people not risked, and in some cases, sacrificed their life so that we could enjoy such luxuries of freedom.
Those men and women who have fought to protect our country in World War I and II and every other military conflict since deserve a huge debt of gratitude from every one of us who today enjoys a life of free thinking, free speech and opportunity.
Perhaps one of the important things to remember is that those who have stepped up to protect our country and our freedom over the years, were often only children (or not much older) when they first picked up their weapons for battle.
Sadly many didn't experience the long and happy life most of us will have the privilege of enjoying.
But they will live on in our memories.
This Anzac Day make sure you stop to remember those who have sacrificed so much so that we can have so much.
Lest we forget.
