Holes for Hay aims to raise awareness of the countless Australian farmers who are currently suffering as a result of drought.

Craig Lapinskie from Your Event Solutions was the brains behind the event.

"It was quite spontaneous. I was watching a show on Channel 7 and it was a documentary on dealing with drought in NSW and Queensland and it was very confronting," he said.

"Basically I woke up on the Monday after watching that and just thought I should do something."

With the event just over a couple of weeks away, Lapinskie said there had already been a few bookings and plenty of local businesses had jumped on board.

"There's been a lot of companies that have donated their produce and their equipment for the day which is great."

It will be a 10.30am start with the format for the day a shotgun four man ambrose.

The cost will be $100 per person with a golf cart included, raffle prizes up for grabs as well as prizes for closest to the pin and longest drive.

Funds raised on the day will go towards Aussie Helpers, an organization that supports Australian farming families.

Every $20 raised will buy one bale of hay.

With a number of farmers in the Highlands region, Lapinskie said it was a problem close to many people in the area.

"It obviously goes back to a lot of people around here, we are a farming area. I've got lots of family and friends that are linked to property and it hits home to a number of people that we weren't aware of."
