The inspirational team of 15 Oxley College has named itself 'Jump into the fog' and the group's fundraising efforts has seen them leap to 12th place against other teams in the Southern Highlands.
At first, the teenagers aimed to raise $1000 but after quickly raising close to that in the first weeks, they increased their goal to $2000.
With less than a month to go until the relay, Jump into the fog is $100 off its goal with $1900 raised already.
While each team member has different reasons for participating in the relay, they all agreed it was for a good cause, it would be fun and it was part of their leadership courses at school.
Team member Billie Coupland said it was also personal as her father had suffered from Leukaemia.
"You don't realise how many people are connected to cancer until you start asking questions," she said.
For some of the team members this would be their third participation in Relay for Life while others are experiencing it for the first time.
As part of the groups fundraising they have held cake stalls and have many ideas for the coming weeks.
This includes a garage sale on April 26 at 5 Fitzroy Street, Mittagong, where there will be furniture, kitchenware, books, kid's games and a cake stall.
