In celebration of Book Week, this year themed Champions Read, the school held a Lunch of Champions where 12 contestants battled it out to see who could eat the most Weet-Bix in 12 minutes.
Teacher librarian Bev McAndrew said while usually the teachers dressed up for Book Week, she wanted to do something different.
"With the Champions Read theme, I thought instead of Weet-Bix's usual 'breakfast of champions' we could do a Lunch of Champions, with the same slogan of 'how many can you do?' in 12 minutes," Ms McAndrew said.
Techniques for the challenge differed between contestants: some poured milk and sugar on their Weet-Bix then shovelled it into their mouths, while others added water into the mix and one of the winners chose a different tactic all together.
American Year 12 student Michael McCandless ate his Weet-Bix dry and washed it down with milk, and while not the most appealing way to eat the cereal, it proved to be the winning strategy.
He consumed 28 Weet-Bix and after accepting his trophy Michael said: "I feel like I'm gonna pop."
Female winner Year 12 student Abbey Cubit finished with 17 and said she was feeling quite ill, but the proud winners had no regrets.
Ms McAndrew said the event was such a success she hoped to make it an annual challenge.
"Moss Vale IGA sponsored the event by supplying the Weet-Bix and milk and I thought we'd have left overs but it's all gone, I think we will need more next year," she said.
At the Book Week assembly the school welcomed several special guests who spoke to the students.
Ron Rucker, an autistic ex student of MVHS was there with his Paralympic torch, ex student Tracey Besters (nee Burgoyne) briefly spoke on her role as Business Woman of the Year, and her husband Jason Besters (also ex student), an International Martial Arts winner," teacher librarian Maryanne Williams said.
In the Olympic spirit, the Top 3 Borrowers of MVHS were awarded gold, silver and bronze awards.
The winners were Jessica Donelly, Blake Dankworth and Phaedra Sabben.
