On Thursday November 28 a 94-year-old woman and an 86-year-old man attended Bowral Police Station separately to report their credit cards had been stolen.
The elderly man and woman had both also received phone calls and were allegedly deceived into providing their pin numbers.
Officers from Goulburn Local Area Command commenced inquiries and identified 40 fraudulent transactions on their cards.
As a result of further inquiries, and assisted by officers from Brisbane Water Local Area Command, detectives executed a search warrant at a home on Hastings Road, Terrigal, about 9am yesterday (Monday 23 December 2013).
During the search officers located and seized a large amount of property, including bikes, clothing, televisions and a motor vehicle.
Police will allege that all items seized were bought with the proceeds of the stolen credit cards.
About 5pm yesterday, a 33-year-old man was arrested at the Terrigal home and taken to Gosford Police Station where he was charged with 40 fraud-related offences.
He’s been given strict conditional bail to appear at Gosford Local Court on Tuesday February 4.
Investigations are continuing and police are reminding members of the public, especially vulnerable people such as the elderly, to never give their bank or personal details out.
Those who are concerned their details have been fraudulently obtained are urged to contact their local police station.
