THE results were better than expected for Joy trades employees who were facing redundancy last month.

This is according to Joy's Director of Human Resources, Australasia, Erik Lucis.
"From the moment we started the process, and all through the timeframe, we kept checking our forecasts for the plant and we received an unexpected workload, which should keep us going for quite some time," Mr Lucis said. Mr Lucis said that while initial estimates, based on reduced customer demand for Joy's services, indicated the company needed to lose 45 staff, the new work means that instead, 32 positions had to go.
With 22 people accepting voluntary redundancies, 10 staff had to accept involuntary redundancies last Friday.
"While it's not great news for some people, the bigger picture is definitely better than we expected," Mr Lucis said.
Mr Lucis was not able to say whether the redundant staff had been able to find other positions.
