The Rotary Club of Berrima District is holding its annual cabaret at Mittagong RSL Club on Friday, May 3 at 6.30pm.
This year the theme is Hits of the Blitz, featuring some of the favourite big band sounds that came from the era of the Blitz in the early 1940s.
The Blitz was the bombing of the United Kingdom by Germany during World War II, between September 7, 1940 and May 21, 1941.
The Blitz failed to demoralise Britain and the Rotary Club aims to entertain party-goers by remembering the spirit and courage of the of the time.
Secretary Jacqui Page said the night would have cameo appearances from locals who would portray Winston Churchill, Vera Lynn and the Andrews Sisters.
“The Rotary choir will sing many of the wartime favourites and they will put on a few skits which should bring a smile faces of those in the audience,” she said.
Up for auction is a 28-day cruise for four people on The World in a two bedroom/two bathroom apartment, sailing from Dublin to St Tropez via the UK, France, Spain, Portugal and Italy worth more than $70,000. Other prizes on offer as part of the live auction include a dinner for 12 cooked in your own kitchen and a day on the harbour with a picnic lunch for six people.
There will be several other silent auction items and all proceeds will go to this year’s projects - the Highlands Youth Mental Health Project and for the group’s Medical Aid to Oceania Project.
This is the third year the club has organised a cabaret event to raise money for a good cause.
In 2011 Rotary raised just over $44,000 with money going to the BDCU Children’s Foundation.
The donation helped fund the Bowral Hospital’s Children’s Outreach Nurse and replace computers and networking for the Bridges for Learning (formerly Toybox) Centre, which helped children with special needs in the Highlands.
Last year the cabaret night raised just over $32,000 with a further donation to help fund the Outreach Nurse. Money was also donated to the Palliative Care Nursing program where equipment was provided to aid patients with end of life needs.
Tickets for this year’s event cost $85 and include a three-course meal and entertainment.
