While most of the Southern Highlands residents were dreaming, the weary eyed class of 2C were waking up well before the sun.
They were about to embark on a journey to meet their idol Adam Young, the singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist known as Owl City.
In August the class created a video inviting Young to the school and within two days of it going viral, Young created a thank-you video and promised the students he would meet with them on his next Australian tour.
He kept his promise and as many would have seen on Tuesday morning on Channel 7's Sunrise, the class of 2C met their idol.
"We woke up at 3.30am to catch the bus all the way up to Sydney," 2C student Darcy said.
"We stood in the window and waved and then we got to meet him. It started to sprinkle and everyone got signed CDs," Darcy said with a big smile on his face.
2C teacher Jim Christodoulopoulos (Mr C) said the adventure was a beautiful bookend to the year and something he and the students would remember for the rest of their lives.
"Channel 7 and Sunrise were great hosts; they always had the kids in mind," Mr C said.
"We were there for two hours and always on air. They mentioned Mittagong at least 10 times.
"Adam Young said it meant a lot to him that the children travelled for two hours and woke up early just to come to see him, he was very grateful and humble."
Mr C said Young signed the posters the children made and loved the scrapbook the class had made for him.
Most of the class said their favourite part on Tuesday's excursion was meeting Young, but one lucky student, Tahlia asked Young for a cuddle and got it.
"My favourite part was hugging Adam Young!" she said.
The students said being on TV was awesome, weird, special, exciting and they were grateful and nervous.
"Watching it back on TV was awesome and made me feel like a star," Courtney said.
Originally the class invited Young to the school to learn about his songs, which they were studying for poetry.
When they met him they asked what Alligator Sky was about, to which Young told the class "dreams and the future".
In the film clip Umbrella Beach the boy flies off the cliff, so the class asked what happened to him, fearing something bad.
Young told the class the boy goes off into space.
They also asked if the film clip in Fireflies was Young's actual bedroom and he told them it was.
