The Southern Highlands Starfish Committee has been running its annual Melbourne Cup Luncheon for the past seven years and for the past five years has hosted the event at Milton Park.
This year Tangara School was the chosen charity.
The Starfish committee has now raised in excess of $300,000 towards Southern Highlands organisations that need assistance.
More than 100 people attended the 2011 event and, with live auctions, donations and items for sale more than $20,000 was raised on the day.
Prizes were awarded for Best Dressed Lady, Best Ladies Hat, Best Dressed Man, and Best Tie.
Nearly $50,000 has been raised by Starfish this year. This includes money raised at the Black Tie and Tiara Ball earlier this year at Hopewood Country House. Money raised for Tangara will go towards:
?The Music Therapy Program Teacher, which receives no government funding at all. Starfish has supported this program since inception and members have been amazed by the results.
?A Liberty Swing to allow children in wheelchairs to experience the swinging motion in the playground.
? Construction of a Bike Track furnished with lane lines, crossings, traffic signals and control signs to enhance the curriculum outcomes being explored in class around safety in the community.
?Purchase of a 2touch interactive whiteboard and other sensory stimulation equipment for the sensory/rainbow room.
