GRUNT and you shall find.
I guess you have to be careful what you wish for. Not that the Sydney South West Area Health Service was forthcoming with any new information but, thanks to a local doctor and several phone calls from the public, the News can confirm that swine flu has hit the Highlands (see stories on page 1 and 4).
Now for the good news. There are many precautions you can take to help avoid or to get over the dreaded virus.
Being hygenic is the first step, and seeking medical treatment is the obvious next.
It’s become evident that the swine flu strain will effect the majority of us.
For most, it will be in a mild form, just like any other flu.
However, for those already weakened by another medical condition, it is imperative to seek medical advice and take immediate action.
The Health Department has urged people with badly affected by flu symptoms to see their doctor without delay.
Employers should also play their part by making sure sick workers stay at home until they are better. The alternative is to arrive to a very empty workplace before long.
For everyone else, make sure you sanitise properly and follow NSW Health directives.
Check out the website www.health.nsw.gov.au for more advice, some helpful tips are listed on page 4.
As you can see from our vox pop on page 2, residents feel they need better and more information from the health department.
The News can certainly vouch for that!
