WHOA! I thought that Bundanon was doing a good thing? Surely, their vote to boycott plastic bottled water has immeasurable benefits.
How many bottles will be saved from landfill? How much carbon will be deleted from production processes? How much money will visitors save? What other community practices will follow on the path to a better, cleaner world?
Yes, businesses will lose money, and people might lose their job, but I’m pretty sure we owe it to the planet before we owe anything to the people who continue to bugger it up.
Society survived long before buying “tap” water in a plastic bottle became a popular thing to do.
Moonshine came in long-lasting jugs, not clear plastic bottles with pink lids on them.
Tribal warriors sculled from animal-skin canteens that they refilled at streams.
All Bundanoon is doing is refusing to sell a product that comes free from a tap. What a novel idea!
A bit like the boy who refused to be impressed by the Emporer’s new clothes; just because others choose to be infatuated by fads, Bundanoon should not be chastised for seeing straight through the commercial veil.
So why all the nasty comments? The most ridiculous is that Bundanoon has somehow taken away the freedom of choice for consumers. What about the same freedom for shopkeepers as to what they choose to offer customers?
After all, you can’t buy pork chops at a synagogue, and it would be silly to ask for a cheeseburger at Milton Park.
This is not about fortune, and it’s not about fame, this is about the greater good. More of it, please...
