IT’S uncanny, isn’t it, that rationalisation always seems to follow mismanagement - and you’ll hear both terms bandied around in reference to the current NSW Government.
The inadequcies and tomfoolery of Rees, Tripodi, Roosendaal and co would almost be comical if their terrible handling of state affairs didn’t impact on the lives of millions.
And though most Highlanders voted Liberal at the last election, even the Wingecarribee can’t escape a Labor Government in chaos.
The “rationalisation” of RailCorp staff and services at Highlands stations (see story on page 1) is a direct result of the state government trying anything it can to lighten a financial mess of their own volition, ie, “mismanagement”.
And who suffers? Not the chauffeur-driven Labor MPs, but citizens - in this case, commuters - who have to carry the services burden.
Train stations will be open less hours and have less staff operate them. What next? A call for passengers to drive the trains themselves?
And a RailCorp suggestion for commuters to phone ahead if they feel they will have difficulties operating the ticket booths is absurd considering there probably won’t be anyone at the station to field their call.
But if one thing makes politicians stand up and pay attention - besides big business donations and travel junkets - it’s the prospect of votes.
The We Still Care think tank has called for a public meeting to talk about green belt protecton in the LEP (see story on page 5).
Whatever you think of the group, they are trying to harness change through people power - and it just might work. Get involved!
