THE Picton Swim club farewelled one of its favourite sons, Daniel Rumsey, last week.
The 19-year-old will captain the Australian team at the fourth World Down Syndrome championships in Albuferia Portugal next week. Rumsey and father John flew out on Sunday and Rumsey will be pressed to better his already remarkable record.
He currently holds 12 world records. In short course he holds the 50m freestyle, and 25m, 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke. In the long course he holds the 100m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke and the 50m butterfly records.
Rumsey travels to train at the Wollondilly Leisure Centre in Picton five times a week under the guidance of coaches Trevor Bransdon and Anna Barnes.
