Highlanders defeated but not disgraced

19 Aug, 2009 03:14 PM
THEY tried again, battled hard again and tackled tenaciously yet again, but unfortunately the Highlanders came up short again on the weekend.

Nobody at the game could question their guts or commitment. Bundy took out the first half 13-5, however holes in the playing roster once again took its toll.

Not so for Avondale. As in other games this season, they simply slotted in some players from the higher grades to gain the upper hand and eventually took out the match 34-13.

This practice needs to be looked at more closely by Illawarra Rugby, and sanctioned. It’s just not an even playing field for the Highlanders and Bowral Rugby.

The three Joshes were Bundy’s best. Josh Thomas was Mr Perpetual Motion showing up all over the park and in the thick of the action, while Josh Grant once again demonstrated his strong kicking game and pace and Josh Hall displayed his uncanny step and evasiveness scoring Bundanoon’s only try.

The Highlanders play their final game this Saturday against Kiama at home.

If Bundanoon play to their potential, they should end the season with a win.

Numbers have dwindled at training the last few weeks, so players get along to training. I will even make a cameo appearance for a game of touch. Watch the bicep.

The Highlanders are calling on all former players to get down to Bundanoon Oval for this one to cheer them home, and to join them after the game at The Bundanoon Club for a cold one and support The Highlanders’ major sponsor.

Kick off is scheduled for 3pm.

Got to give it to these lads, they play their guts out week after week only to be beaten by teams who field players from other grades. How disheartening is that? Wake up Illawarra Rugby and do something about this all too familiar practice. Go Bundy at least your club can hold its head up very high and be proud of what you do each Saturday on the paddock.
