RUGBY league was alive in the Highlands this week.
The Wests Tigers travelled to the region on Sunday afternoon for training, a coaching clinic and school visits on Monday and Tuesday.
After a training session at Mittagong Sports Ground on Monday morning, the squad took hundreds of the Wingecarribee's budding footballers through an afternoon of fun and skills practice that catered for players of all ages and abilities.
The full squad appeared for the Southern Highlands Blitz at Loseby Park at 4pm with only Benji Marshall, Lote Tuqiri and Adam Blair not able to make the trip to the Highlands.
The event, organised in cooperation with Group 6 Junior Rugby League, CRL and ARL Development, attracted more than 300 young players and their families who turned up for the chance to throw a ball around with players such as Beau Ryan, Chris Heighington and Matt Utai.
Captain Robbie Farah said the trip had been a good opportunity for the players to bond away from their regular surroundings, especially for the new players on the roster.
"We're still training down here," he said.
"It's a good opportunity to come out and get away from the surrounds of Concord Oval and also do stuff with the community, which is important."
Yesterday afternoon, the players were split into small groups and visited 10 schools in the region to speak with students about junior rugby league and the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle.
Players visited Hill Top Public School, Colo Vale Public School, St Thomas Aquinas, Bowral Public School, Mittagong Public School, St Michael's, Mittagong, Moss Vale High School, Robertson Public School and Wollondilly Anglican College.
Prop Keith Galloway said the squad often visited a few schools in the lead up to each season, however this was the first time the Tigers had travelled to the Highlands.
"It looks like the kids are having a great time," he said.
