MOSS Vale Junior Dragons Rugby League Club has been given a share in $1 million worth of new sporting equipment being distributed to rugby league clubs across the country, as part of the 2009 Telstra Assistance Fund.
The Moss Vale club was selected from over 600 rugby league applications and will be provided with essential equipment and materials such as footballs, water bottles, tackle bags and hit shields.
Launched in May with the support of some of Australia’s top athletes including former Junior Dragon Nathan Hindmarsh, the Telstra Assistance Fund has already contributed over $1.45 million worth of sporting equipment to nearly 1500 Rugby League clubs since 2003.
NRL player and Parramatta Eels legend, Nathan Hindmarsh was thrilled with the number of clubs who applied and were successful through the Telstra Assistance Fund.
“I know how critical a role our local sports and community clubs play in developing young sportspeople and it’s great to see so many clubs around Australia benefiting from the Telstra Assistance Fund,” he said.
Telstra Area General Manager Pat Nolan, said the company was proud to continue to support grassroots and community clubs in the Illawarra region.
“Telstra’s eight year partnership with the NRL has delivered many tangible benefits to communities right across Australia and the Telstra Assistance Fund is just one of many examples of this,” he said.
“In addition, the Telstra Kids to Kangaroos program, also in its eighth year, has given over 25,000 junior rugby league players the chance to attend coaching clinics with their rugby league idols and rugby league legends.”
