Junior Spuddies to be guided by new committee

30 Sep, 2009 11:10 AM
THERE has been a changing of the guard at the Robertson District Junior Rugby League Club following Jeff Mant’s appointment as club president.

At a well-attended annual general meeting, Mant, who has held the position of treasurer for the past six years, took over the top post.

Outgoing president Rick Fitzgerald did not stand for re-election.

Fitzgerald, as well as coaching the Spuddies senior VB Regan Cup side, has been junior president for the past two years and leaves the club in a healthy position.

At the start of 2009 season the club had 32 registered players, this number swelling to a staggering 77 enabling the club to field under-7, under-8, under-11B, under-12B, under-14B and under-16B teams in 2009.

This, coupled with a healthy financial report and a hard working committee, suggests Robertson will be highly competitive in 2010.

Mant will be joined on the executive by treasurer Lisa Mauger, secretary Meredith Mills and registrar Nikki Mills.

Following the meeting, the club hosted its annual presentation day at Robertson Showground which was well attended by a large number of players and parents.

The major award winners were:

o Group 6 2009 Under 14B Player of the Year, Mitchell Fitzgerald; Hurford Cup Trophy, Johnson Mills; Noble CupTrophy, Blake Pittolo.

Individual team awards:

o Under-11s: Best and fairest Jaad Matesic; best forward,Tyler Jol; best back, Lindsay Thurgate; coaches award, Tyler Duroux; most improved, Elijah Wren.

o Under-14s: Best and fairest, Mitchell Fitzgerald; best forward, Michael Hegarty; best back, Keelan Mant; coaches award, Vaughan Edmonds; most improved, Aaron Matesic.

o Under-16s: Best and fairest, Brayden Stratford; best forward, Chris Freere; best back, Dan Rolles; coaches award, Cliff Caines; most improved, Jayden Valenzisi.
