Junior Spuddies geared up for another record breaking season

27 Jan, 2010 11:01 AM
AFTER a record-breaking season in 2009, the Robertson Junior Rugby League Spuddies are confident of entering teams in seven age divisions this year.

Club officials are confident that last year’s number of registrations, which peaked at 77, will be surpassed in the coming season.

The club’s registration officer Nicki Hill said she was surprised by the amount of interest already shown in all groups.

“Although it’s only early stages we have fielded a large number of enquiries from players wanting to turn out for Robertson and if this trend continues then I can see no reason why we cannot go better than last season,’’ Hill said.

Mrs Hill said the club is focused on the future and in order to consolidate would like to hear from intending sponsors who can take advantage of one of four packages - platinum ($1500), gold ($1000), silver ($500) and bronze ($250).

With player registrations at an all-time high, the club hopes to enter teams in the under 6, 8, 9, 12, 13, 15 and 16 competitions.

To start the ball rolling a registration day has been scheduled for Robertson Showground on February 2 from 4-6pm.

The registration day will coincide with a Country Rugby League coaching clinic when a number of NRL footballers will put players from all age groups through a series of ball and fitness drills based around grabbing your mates and a ball and having a good old game of footy in the backyard.

Meanwhile the club is also anxious to hear from intending coaches for all age divisions and all applicants must hold appropriates qualifications as stipulated by the CRL or are willing to undergo such coaching courses.

Vacancies also exist for managers, league safe and first aid officers.

Applications close with the club secretary: Meredith Mills, PO Box 3216, Robertson, NSW 2577.
