JOSHUA Day set himself specific goals for 2009, and with selection into two elite football teams last month, he has now achieved them all.
The Moss Vale High School student has been selected in the NSW Country Squad and was also asked to join the South Coast Wolves Premier League under-13 team for the 2010 season.
The NSW Country Squad training starts immediately, with players hoping to be selected for the final team that will play in the national titles in Canberra next April.
Day said the trials for both teams were nerve-wracking as the standard was extremely high; he has been very nervously awaiting his letters, not really sure of how he went.
“I’ve worked really hard towards my goals this year,” he said.
“I’ve had great support and coaching from Craig Ash at Southern NSW Football and Nick D’Amore from the Highland Soccer Association. They have both helped to improve my technical play and field sense.”
“The Highlands has lots of talent in its juniors and with the improvements to player pathways there are now lots of opportunities for country players to not only be noticed by Football NSW but to strive for and reach their goals.”
