Match Reports for Moss Vale Junior Rugby League Round 3 Sat 23rd of June

Moss Vale Under 6s

Had a Bye

Moss Vale Under 7s

The under 7's were at home on Saturday and played against a fired up Robertson side. Although it was cold both teams were really keen to play. Mossy scored the first try, but Robo soon stole their thunder. It was a great effort from the kids showing how much they are learning and improving. Keep up the Good work.

Moss Vale Under 9s White

Our boys were at home this weekend for two games. Our first game against Robertson, was a low scoring game because of the good tackling and very solid defence from both sides. Young Nathan Skuse, Luke Clarke and Jayden Knowlson all played very well. Nathan Munday scored our only try after good lead up work by all the team.

In the second game we played Mossy's other under-9s (Reds) in the local derby. This was another low scoring game due to good defence and solid tackling by both teams. The try scorers were Nathan Skuse 2 and Nathan Munday 1 with Corey Gardener converting one try. Great game boys you are improving with every game.

Moss Vale under 10s

Mossy played Picton at the weekend and came away with a hard fort win. A heavy penalty count against the Dragons frustrated the boys (but you have to keep those tackles down) and kept Picton on the front foot and Mossy's defence on their toes. In a tight first half Mossy lead 13 to 8; with tries to Ash, Blair and Rhys B. Ashley's try was one of our best tries of the season, Ash received a great ball from Blair as he was going to ground then raced down the touch line with the Picton defence closing in, with skill and a great fend he managed to stay away from the touch line to score. Blair then scored after one of his typically strong runs, leaving several defenders in his wake. Rhys knows if you back them up there is always a chance to score and that's what happened as he received a good offload from Billy close to the line. Mossy managed to score two tries to one in the second half, Matt charged onto a lovely cutout pass from James to score. Blair came up with a double as he struggled through the defence to place the ball one handed over the try line as Picton tried to hold him up. Billy had a fine all-round game and was top tackler for the match with great assistance from Matt, Ash, Blair and Joshua. Final score Mossy 23 Picton 13.

Moss Vale Under 11's

The under 11s side played Camden at Camden on the weekend. The boys started the game off well with good field position through the forwards, leading to a great individual try from N.Whatman, which was converted by M.Wright taking the score to MV-5 Cam-0. The boys lost their way a bit, late in the half struggling to make ground while Camden were able to score, making the halftime score MV-5 Cam-5. Moss Vale were a much more committed side in the second half, with better ball security and harder running allowing us to run in three great tries through M.Wright 2 and M.Potter 1 while N.Gregory and M.Gilroy each kicked goals. Moss Vale went on to win the game 18-5.Top games from T.Elsing, S.Muddle,P.Ferguson and T.Sneddon. Good luck next game boys.

Moss Vale Under 12s

Moss Vale played Mittagong on Saturday at Moss Vale with our boys going down. Mittagong got the upper hand through our poor defence and lack of ball control. They also had the fire more then we did. Although on the losing side AJ had a strong game in the forwards as did Matt. Issac had a blinder in attack and defence. Aaron had a fine game playing in the backs for the first time. But you can't win with a couple of players it must be a full team effort. Better luck next week.

Moss Vale Under 16A's

Moss Vale played the Oaks on Saturday in a game predicted to be a very physical and bruising encounter, and it was just that. From the kick off, the hits were coming fast and furious but none bigger than from Anthony Phelps who left his mark on a few sore and sorry Oaks boys. Moss Vale scored the only points in the first half with a try going to Michael Johnston and with the kick being missed the half time score being 4-0.

The second half was just as aggressive with Moss Vale not letting the Oaks cross the line until 8 minutes from full time which made the score 4-4, then the word went out for a field goal so Anthony Phelps put his hand up and when the chance came he took the kick and put the Dragons in front with Mos Vale winning the game 5-4.

The players and committee would like to send our thoughts to Ryan Webb who has suffered a bad injury to his knee and is possible that he may have to have an operation, we hope that he has a full recovery.

Good game boys, still a few little mistakes but getting better each week.

Moss Vale Junior Rugby League would like to thank our sponsors for their support for season 2002.
