In the end, it was the two best teams for the year that prevailed.
But it was far from easy.
Mittagong's first grade men completed a remarkable unbeaten season with a tough 2-1 grand final win over Bowral, while Robertson's senior women ended Mittagong's long reign with an exciting 3-2 success.
Speaking from his team's "Silly Sunday" session at the Lion Rampant Hotel yesterday, Mittagong men's first grade player-coach Glen Isedale expressed satisfaction with a job well done.
"We've had a great year and yesterday was a great way to finish off," he said.
"It was the tough game we expected because Bowral always lift. Bowral had plenty of chances but I still feel we deserved to win."
Ron Allen's side will rue missing some gilt-edged opportunities late in the game, although it took some individual brilliance from Pete Goulder to win the game for the Lions.
After receiving the ball just inside Bowral's half, Goulder sliced his way past four defenders before slotting the ball home.
Goulder's goal was all that separated the teams in a neck-and-neck struggle that tested the stamina and durability of all the players.
However, just as they have answered all questions asked of them this season, Mittagong prevailed displaying how much of a champion team they really are.
"We've been really strong in the second half all year and I think we're a bit fitter than the other teams," Isedale said.
