Hill Top's Jennifer Purcell is on the verge of her first national title after a dominant display at the recent state judo titles in Liverpool.
The 15-year-old dynamo swept all before her at the states, continuing her meteoric rise up the judo ranks by claiming the 52kg and 57kg titles for U16s.
She has now qualified for June's National Titles in Canberra where she will get the chance to avenge her third placing in last year's competition.
Only taking up the sport five years ago, Purcell has stamped herself as a rising star in the exacting discipline, earning a number one ranking in the U16s 52kg and 57kg class as well as being ranked second in 63kg category.
But the talented athlete is now steeling herself for the nationals, where many believe she has a realistic chance of gold.
"When I competed last year I was the lightest and youngest in my division," she said.
"I still went well but this year I hope to do better and it would be nice to get gold.
"It'd be great for myself personally but also for judo because not many people really know about it."
And with her two conquerors from last year advancing to an older class, Purcell may very well be the Highlands next national champion.
A strong showing at the event would leave her with an outside chance of making the Australian team for the Oceania Titles in Guam, a feat virtually unheard for a fighter so young.
Purcell is leaving nothing to chance either, with her intensive training regime including classes at Goshin-Jitsu Judo in Hill and the Illawarra Academy Club as well as gym sessions adding up to 10 hours a week.
Judo is a martial art that involves a variety of throwing and grappling techniques with the main aim being to pin the opponent down.
"It's a different sort of sport and not many people know about it," Purcell said.
"I really enjoy the physical part and the training and it teaches you a lot of respect."
Purcell's exploits have taken her all over the country and at her rapid rate of improvement she may very well end up fulfilling a dream.
"My ultimate dream is to represent Australia in the Olympics," she said.
