Williamson flies in road race

31 Oct, 2000 04:30 PM

MONDAY night saw a good roll up of riders to the velodrome at Eridge Park. Although the amount of available daylight limits the amount of racing this early in the season we still managed to get through some flying 200m, a 20 lap scratch race, a handicap and an Italian Pursuit.

Results are listed below:

20 Lap Scratch Race

1st Radan Povolny

2nd Michel Vermande

3rd Peter Wheeler

3 Lap Handicap Sprint

1st Radan Povolny (scratch)

2nd Michel Vermande (30m)

3rd Pepe Weiland (110m)

Italian Pursuit

Team A: Richard Vollebregt, Peter Wheeler, Justin Tomlinson, Bernard Devoy, Claire Weiland defeated Team B: Radan Povolny, Michel Vermande, Sam Hunt, Pepe Weiland, Alexander Tomlinson.

On Tuesday night 25 riders took a chance on the weather and were rewarded with a dry race over the hilly Wombeyan Caves Road course, Pam Vollebregt was first away with husband Richard the lone scratch rider some 36 minutes later.

The hilly terrain as usual broke up the packs but not enough to allow the back markers to get up. 1st place went to mountain biker James Williamson with Alistair Carpenter 2nd and Dave Feeney 3rd.

Placings with corrected times are listed below.

1st J Williamson 54.05, 2nd A Carpenter 51.39, 3rd D Feeney 55.42, 4th Pam Vollebregt 66.53, 7th A Derks 42.38, 8th R Bloor 53.38, 9th M Feeney 42.54, 10th M Vermande 45.54, 11th B Den 43.02, 12th S Beaumont 58.05, 13th Mark Feeney 55.34, 14th H Koster 54.53, 15th K Brown 56.01, 16th W Millican 55.06, 17th J Malone 71.20, 18th R McEwan 56.24, 19th M Meredith 53.10, 20th R Mein 53.10, 21st D Morris 48.34, 22nd A Demaria 45.45, 23rd T Petrie 61.56, 24th J Lascelles 66.39, DQ Peter Wheeler.
