Weekend of mixed results for Mittagong

Weekend of mixed results for Mittagong

27 Jun, 2003 08:18 AM

Mittagong Hockey Club

The games night at the Highlands Golf Club tomorrow night will start at 6.30pm.

You can order a bistro meal if you like as there is no catering arranged for the evening. The Members Badge Draw will be held at the golf club.

Congratulations to Jemma Delamont who was selected to play in the under-14s regional side. Our best wishes are with you Jemma.

We are expecting the club T-shirts (long sleeves) for last year's premiership-winning teams to be available this weekend. Sizes will be available for ladies and men's players. Cost will be about $30. Hats and stubbie holders will also be available.

Ross Isedale won the cup and left the pub at 8pm to have dinner with Gail. This was a disappointing effort as we expect the more senior players to be setting an example.

Don't forget the Members badge draw each Saturday night between 6.30pm and 7.30pm at the Lion Rampant Hotel. From now on there will be two draws, the badge draw and a draw for a carton of beer. Remember, you have to be there to win.

Robertson 2 def Lady Lions 1

This game ended up a very tough encounter. It was a high standard game that saw the top two teams clash. Whitney Smith scored our goal.

Lady Tigers and Robertson 1-all

This game failed to reach any great heights. Both teams had plenty of opportunity to score but it was a defenders game.

Sian Power played strongly. We have had the same line-up two weeks in a row, so hopefully our hockey scores will improve. If anyone needs a lift to the Valley this Saturday, please contact Janelle Menzies.

Lady Leopards and Bowral 1-all

A much younger side ran the Lady Leopards in circles in the first half.

Strong defence by Kirli Saunders and solid as a rock in the halves Christine Bernasconi kept Bowral from scoring again in the second. Roving attacking play by Melinda Garrard earned her the goal she has been promising to score. Toni Kerr as always safe and spectacular in goals.

Lions 2 def Burrawang/Moss Vale 1

A rather lacklustre performance in a game that did not reach any great heights. Perhaps we can hire some enthusiasm from Rentquip.

Tigers 2 def Kangaroo Valley 1

This game saw us dominate the first half and then throw our short game out the window for the second half.

Kangaroo Valley tested our defence in the second half and eventually put one past the big fellow. Goal scorers were Jeremy Hines and Ashley Goulder. Brad Snowden displayed an excellent 'back tackling' technique and was an asset to the defence.

Panthers 4 def Berrima Red 0

Despite missing several key players, Panthers recorded a convincing win.

Panthers led 1-0 at half time through a penalty stroke. An early goal in the second half by Henry Newton have Panthers the cushion they needed and they went on with the job.

Allan Rebbeck and Allan Parkes both found the net but it was a good team win with everyone contributing.
