For the first time, a number of aqua aerobics classes are being offered at Mittagong Pool this summer, and instructor Yvonne Hoyle is keen to see as many faces as possible join her and keep active.
Under the umbrella name of Aquasize, Ms Hoyle offers a number of different classes to help people of all ages improve their fitness in the low-impact, high-resistance exercise environment offered in the underwater world.
"It increases your cardio-vascular fitness, muscle strength and endurance and is great for flexibility and range of movement," she said.
"And the range of exercises you can do in the pool is endless, from boxing to Pilates and everything in between."
To start the Aquasize season off, Ms Hoyle is offering classes at Mittagong Pool on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
On Tuesday is Aqua-deep, which is a 45-minute session conducted in deep water in which participants wear a buoyancy belt. Being in deep water means the exercise has virtually no impact, which Ms Hoyle, a former nurse, said is great for people recovering from injuries, with joint pain and pregnant women.
On Thursdays is Aqua-fitness, which is a 55-minute aqua aerobics class held in the shallow water.
