No track racing this past week due to Christmas day falling on our track racing day this year, however, on Boxing Day 26 riders turned up to take part in the 20k road event at Berrima.
Pam Vollebregt, keen from a great win the previous week led the field out on a 21 minute handicap from husband Richard who once again was the lone scratch rider. A strong, hot west-south-westerly breeze was making the going tough on the sections out to three legs o man and Medway but the last 5k dash to the finish was extremely fast as large bunches formed and made optimum use of the tailwind.
Despite starting alone Richard Vollebregt was doing its best into the wind and he quickly reeled in Peter Wheeler and Matt Feeney who were dropped from their bunches very early in the race. Outer markers, Sandra Beaumont and Neil Davis were holding their own and looking like they were going to hold out despite concerted challenges from Mandy Meredith, Thomas Petrie and Wayne Lewis, while a very much in form Angelo De Maria and James Williamson were charging hard from the back.
Richard however had caught and blown apart the chopping block bunch of Michael Vermande, Shaun Lewis and Paul Aubrey by the time they reached the Medway turnaround and had the leaders in his sights as only Shaun managed to stick to his wheel.
Despite the assistance of the tailwind after the turn Neil and Sandra couldn’t quite hand on being overhauled by Richard and Shaun just before the line. Shaun’s dad, Wayne Lewis, put in a gutsy ride to round out the top five.

Racing was on once again last Monday and Tuesday night, although the conditions the conditions were far more suited to water sports than bicycle racing.

despite the hot conditions there was a record turnout of 46 riders to tackle the hilly Wombeyan Caves road course on Tuesday evening.
The lone scratch rider, Richard Vollebreget, gave a massive 39 minute head start to the limit riders and still managed to finish in 7th position.
New rider Jane Badenoch Jones was the easy winner with Rebecca Hesford 2nd and Josh Hesford third.
