The Southern Highlands reputation as a golfing wonderland will be put on show when the Southern Highlands Veteran Golfers hosts it's annual Week of Golf from November 10-14.
More than 340 veteran golfers from across the State will take part in the event which has become the biggest veteran golfers tournament in NSW.
There are 39 veterans' associations in NSW with each of them hosting their own week of golf, but none of them are as big as the local version.
Players play four rounds of golf over five days, taking on the four different courses in the area.
"It brings in an average of 250 visitors for the week with 50 percent of them ladies," Southern Highlands Veteran Golfers publicity officer Ralph Stoffell said.
"The balance of the field made up of our own veterans group, which means we're fielding on each of the four courses for four days roughly 170 starters."
The sheer number of competitors means the field is split into two groups, with play on two courses each day.
On Monday the event is single stableford at Moss Vale and Bowral, on Tuesday the action is at Bowral and Country Golf Clubs, Wednesday is a rest day, players take on Highlands and Moss Vale on Thursday, while on the final day Highlands and Bowral Country Club are the venues.
As well as the four days of golf there is also a picnic day on Wednesday and a dinner on Thursday for the veterans, in what Stoffell describes as a big week.
"These people come here and they have literally a great time," he said.
"The women are absolute gems and they contribute greatly to the event."
Competition co-ordinator Don Moore makes sure everything is organised for the week and Stoffell said he should be acknowledged for all his hard work.
"Don Moore, who is the tournament director, has done this job for nine consecutive years and his dedication to this activity is monumental," he said.
"His life is golf and he travels around to all the veteran tournaments."
The Week of Golf started in 1988 with 150 starters and has since grown to be one of the region's biggest annual sporting events and is an economic boom for local businesses.
